Quick Movie Review: 127 Hours (2010)
127 Hours (2010)
Bottomline: Great film showing an incredibly true story of survival.
CAVEAT: By now, everyone has heard about “the scene.” This is where Aron frees himself from the rock using the only means available to him. Yes, it’s gross, but Director Danny Boyle handles it well.
Where Can I See this Movie? It’s available for rent on DVD.
QMR Opinion: What do you do when you have an hour and a half film that will take place 80 percent of the time in a hole with one actor to carry it off? Well, first you get a director who directs with terrific pacing and deftness. Danny Boyle. Then you get cinematographers who brilliantly use the camera to show loneliness, isolation and movement (where there is no movement). Enrique Chediak and Anthony Dod Mantle. Then you get an actor who brilliantly inhabits his character and is careful not to overplay him. James Franco. Put all that together and you have a great film of survival.
