Quick Movie Review: Seven Samurai (1954)
Seven Samurai (1954)
Bottomline: The classic Samurai film. You haven't seen Samurai films until you've seen this one.
Where Can I See This Movie? It is available for instant viewing on Netflix and is available for rent on DVD.
Subtitle Alert!! This movie is in Japanese and has subtitles. For goodness sakes, don't watch this movie with English dubbed in.
Inspiration Alert!! The American western, The Magnificent Seven (1960), starring Yul Brenner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson, was inspired by Seven Samurai.
QMR Opinion: Seven samurai are gathered to help a town defend itself against bandits. The master, Akira Kurosawa, directed this Samurai epic starring the one and only Toshiro Mifune. Big battles. Classic Japanese over-acting. Bad make-up. It doesn't matter. Kurosawa drives this movie forward by sheer will and Mifune is simply marvelous.
