Quick Movie Review: Stagecoach (1939)
Stagecoach (1939)
Bottomline: Classic American western that is a must see for any film fan.
Where Can I See It? It is available for rent. I watched it on Turner Classic Movies.
What Is Your Favorite John Ford-John Wayne Film? Well, actually, there are two -- The Quiet Man (1952) and The Searchers (1956), which is considered by many to be the best western ever made.
QMR Opinion: The first colloboration between John Ford and John Wayne -- a relationship that would give us some terrific films. Also stars Claire Trevor and Thomas Mitchell. An eclectic group of travelers is thrown together on a stagecoach and find themselves having to work through some of their own issues as well as the small problem of having a band of Indians led by Geronimo trying to kill them all. This is shot in Monument Valley, Arizona, and, as such, is beautiful to watch. As is often the case with this early films, there is a lot of over-acting but the overall effect of the film is fantastic. Classic Hollywood Western.
