Quick Movie Review: The Omega Man (1971)

The Omega Man (1971)

Bottomline: It's a good thing this is a cult classic because it sure does suck.

QMR Opinion: This was the first of a Charlton Heston, apocalyptic double feature for me – the other being Soylent Green (1973). This cult classic is based on the book I Am Legend and stars Chuck as the last remaining (or so he thinks) human being on a planet that has become overrun by crazy albinos who are light sensitive and spend their time at night by burning books and destroying art. Turns out that there are indeed other people running around and they happen to be young and groovy. Plus there is Lisa, who is young and hip, which is fine until she starts doing the huckabuck with Chuck, who is about 15 years older than she is. Yes, it’s creepy and, frankly, kind of gross. The dialog is laughable and includes notable quotes such referring to Heston's home as his "honky paradise."
