Quick Movie Review: A Man Called Horse (1970)

Note: If you watch this video, you will have pretty much seen the whole movie. Warning: Contains some graphic content.

A Man Called Horse (1970)

Bottomline: Not a bad flick from the early '70s. If it's on TV and you've nothing else to watch, give it a look.

QMR Opinion: By now, it is well known that the only original components of Cameron’s Avatar (2009) are the mind-blowing special effects. The storyline, the characters, the plot and even the dialogue are rip-offs of earlier films including this 1970 release starring Richard Harris. Harris plays an Englishman who is visiting America to hunt and explore. He ends up being captured by a tribe of Sioux who treat him like a horse until, of course, he has occasion to kill an enemy or two. Then he goes native. This involves the ceremony of the Sun God, which has to be one of the most painful things I’ve ever witnessed in film. Couple of quick notes – you’ll recognize the medicine man as the Native American star of the famous anti-pollution PSA and then one of the most English of English actresses – Dame Judith Anderson – plays an old Sioux woman (Buffalo Cow Head).
