One Foot In Heaven (1941)

One Foot in Heaven (1941)

Bottomline: Bit on the corny side but overall an excellent film and well worth your time. Good viewing for the whole family!

The two main actors in the movie are:

Frederic March (died in 1975 at age 77 from prostate cancer): One of the best actors around, March was nominated five times for the Best Actor Oscar and won twice -- Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1931) and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). He also won two Tony awards for Best Actor.

Martha Scott (died in 2003 at the age of 90): A solid actress but never hit it big. Was nominated for Best Actress once for Our Town (1940), a role she developed for the stage.

QMR Opinion: I love being surprised by movies. This movie was recommended to me by my father-in-law and, I'll admit, I had my reservations. There are many great old movies but there are a plethora of really bad ones. The good news? This is a terrific film that my wife and I simply could not stop watching. It tells the story of an itinerant Methodist minister and his triumphs and trials during a lengthy ministerial career. Yes, it gets a bit corny but March is fantastic. Scott is solid. And it's surprisingly funny. Better yet. . .it's a great movie for the entire family. My favorite scenes? The one where March takes his son to the movies to teach him a lesson and, yes, the last scene, which is probably the corniest of them all.
