Dennis Hopper, R.I.P.
When Dennis Hopper died last month at the age of 74 from prostate cancer, I'm sure most film buffs immediately thought of his two iconic roles -- Billy in Easy Rider (1969) [a role that brought him an Academy Award nomination] and Frank Booth in Blue Velvet (1986). It makes sense. Those are two terrific roles and played to the hilt by Mr. Hopper.
Not me.
The minute I heard that Dennis had lost his battle with cancer, my thoughts went straight to one of my favorite movies -- Hoosiers (1986). Yes, Gene Hackman is the main focus of the film and, as usual, delivers a magnificent performance. However, Hopper adds spice to the movie with his role as Shooter (another role that brought him an Academy Award nomination). That's why I embedded the Hoosier's trailer to this brief tribute to the one and only Dennis Hopper. "We're gonna run the picket fence at 'em!"
