North by Northwest (1959)
Bottomline: You're kidding, right? This is considered by many to be one of Hitchcock's greatest films.
QMR Opinion: This classic Hitchcock film has found new life in a speacial edition release on Blu Ray. And, yes, it is worth the money. The disc comes with a booklet that is chock full of information – some of it a rehash but there are some new nuggets in there. Plus, there are a number of special features. But the true star here is the digital restoration. The picture is so sharp that it appears almost 3-dimensional. Interestingly, I watched this with my 16-year-old daughter and found myself getting slightly uncomfortable with some of the dialogue because you forget how sexually charged the conversations are between Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint. One nit-picky item of note – I could barely read the menu for the Special Features section because the typeface was thin and reversed out. Special acting kudos go out to James Mason and Martin Landau.
